Issues with MicroSD card formatted as internal memory

Hi, I have been running into a problem a couple of months ago where my Android tablet (nVidia Shield) had been restarting randomly and reverting file changes after restarts (i.e. files would reappear if deleted, and new files would disappear). This issue lasted a couple of days and fixed itself.

Today it just started again. This time though, it's gotten to the point where Android would become almost completely unresponsive when the microSD card is inserted and seems to be fine when I remove it, leading me to think the card is failing / has failed. Unfortunately, if I connect the card to another device it is not recognized due to having been formatted as an internal storage (I had learned this when the service first began to act up, and I feared it was due to the memory card failing). I have no way to recover my files it seems then. Is there anything I can do in this situation?

Thanks!

P.S. I hate that Android is so fussy when it comes to installing, accessing, and saving files on external storage. I was fearing this when I initially formatted it as internal storage but the actual internal storage of the tablet was too limiting for me so I felt compelled. Regretting that now.
