T-Mobile switching Whatsapp calls to regular calls using T-mobile line instead

I have been hit with a total of $800 dollars of international calls that I made with Whatsapp and found out that T-mobile started switching the App initiated calls into a regular international call using T-mobile service and charging a premium for the International calls. One does not realize that this is happening until the bill arrives in the mail. T-mobile alleges that to help improve the quality of phone calls when they "detect" that one's phone call is losing its data or wi-fi connection, they are automatically switching the call to a Standard phone call without alerting the user and billing at full international rates. The only way to prevent this is to set up a block to international calls on your line. They say that it is a legitimate way of doing business and it is covered on their Terms of use agreement. Has anyone else experienced the same issues?
